[edit] Overview

The paper trail of the LDS church is more than just a mere formality, it is the binding contractual proof that the member has received their eternal ordinances.

In the event that a piece of a member's paperwork, recording an ordinance or blessing, is lost by the LDS church, that ordinance or blessing is then null and void. In order for the member to retain their church standing or blessing(s), the LDS member must re-perform the applicable ordinance(s) or re-receive the applicable blessing so that the paperwork may be re-filed, and then its binding nature will then again be recognized by the LDS church organization for all eternity.
