- Dallin H. Oaks delivers address entitled "Reading Church History" to the Ninth Annual Church Educational System religious Educators' Symposium at Brigham Young University (1985) [1]

- "Lectures on theology" were approved for inclusion in the Book of Commandments, and the Book of Commandments was renamed to Doctrine and Covenants by a Conference vote in 1835. Section 101, known as the "Article on Marriage", was also added, part of which read, "Inasmuch as this church of Christ has been reproached with the crime of fornication, and polygamy: we declare that we believe, that one man should have one wife; and one woman, but one husband, except in case of death, when either is at liberty to marry again."

- The Salt Lake Tribune publishes article, "Elder Decries Criticism of LDS Leaders", quoting Dallin Oaks: "Criticism is particularly objectionable when it is directed toward church authorities, general or local. . . It is quite another thing to criticize or depreciate a person for the performance of an office to which he or she has been called of God. It does not matter that the criticism is true." (Sunday August 18, 1985, p. 2B)

- Hyrum Smith baptizes and confirms William E. McLellin (1831)
- 100–150 armed men ride into DeWitt and give the Mormons to October 1 to leave the county. (1838)
- Amasa M. Lyman is ordained an Apostle, replacing Orson Pratt, who had been excommunicated (he returned to the Church and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles a year later) (1842)

- "Council approves article vindicating Joseph Smith's conduct on Zion's Camp, signed by sixteen members, to be published in the Evening and Morning Star and circulated as a broadside." [2]

- In 1981, Boyd K. Packer gave a talk entitled, "The Mantle Is Far, Far Greater Than The Intellect". In it he said, "There is a temptation for the writer or the teacher of Church history to want to tell everything, whether it is worthy or faith promoting or not... Some things that are true are not very useful." [3]

- Brigham Young dies in 1877. At the time of his death, "Young had married 56 women--19 predeceased him, 10 divorced him, 23 survived him, and 4 are unaccounted for. Of the 23 who survived him, 17 received a share of his estate while the remaining 6 apparantly had non conjugal roles." [4]

- Leonard J. Arrington, "a member of the Committee of Historians, meets with N. Eldon Tanner, counselor in the First Presidency of the LDS Church, to discuss the organization and function of the Church Historian’s Office" (1970). [5]
- Jerald and Sandra Tanner confront Mark Hofmann. "I [Jerald] asked Mr. Hofmann some very pointed questions that related to the Salamander Letter. The answers he gave did not satisfy me, and I felt that Mr. Hofmann knew that I did not believe what he was saying. At one point he looked at me with a sad expression on his face. He seemed to be deeply troubled. It was almost as if he was trying to say, 'Please believe what I am telling you.' Unfortunately, I could not believe his answers." [6]
