King James Version

Mormons use the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. They, for all practical purposes, typically consider it the most reliable translation, although they think it has been significantly corrupted and robbed of many "plain and precious things."

The Book of Mormon was written by Joseph Smith in the fashion of the King James prose, making it sound very familiar to those who use the King James Version of the Bible. This is probably why Mormonism has not, thus far, encouraged the reading of a translation that is more easily readable. For many, using the KJV and the Book of Mormon side by side gives the impression that both, on a superficial level as regards the wording, are similar.

While it is good that Mormons still have access to the Bible, many lament that because of its difficult wording, many do not read or find it enjoyable as much as they could were they to use a more contemporary, readable (and reliable) translation.
